Thessaloniki is among the major cities of Greece. The Archaeological Museum is located in this city and is highly considered as one of Europe’s finest museums. It is home to the remarkable treasures of the tomb of Phillip of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great. The treasures were discovered back in 1977 at Vergina. The Roman Forum was the center of this city in the ancient times. The most preserved part of this forum is its large theater and it is still used for some summer concerts. The White Tower is Thessaloniki’s most renowned landmarks. It was initially created as a part of the city walls. At present, the building is no longer white but it is still an imposing structure. This tower was formerly used as a prison and tourists can glance into the rooms that were utilized as cells. One of the area’s most notable churches is the Agia Sofia, which is a domed church that was created in the eight century AD and it is a replica of the Agia Sophia located in Istanbul. Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece and home to the gods of the Greek mythology, is also located in this city.
